✦ Does Seelen UI modify my operating system?
╰─ No, Seelen UI does not modify your operating system. It works by subscribing to Windows' native events and interpreting them as needed to display the appropriate content. Seelen UI reads system settings and extends them within its own settings, but it does not alter or modify any core system files or registry entries. The app strictly adheres to Windows APIs and only interacts with the system in ways that Windows itself allows.
✦ Can Seelen UI break my operating system?
╰─ No, Seelen UI cannot break your operating system. Since it does not modify any core system files or settings (as explained in the previous question), there is no risk of it causing damage to your OS. Seelen UI is designed to work seamlessly within the boundaries of Windows APIs, ensuring a safe and stable experience.
✦ Can a Windows update break Seelen UI?
╰─ No, it is not likely that a standard Windows update will break Seelen UI. However, there is always a small risk, especially if you are using experimental builds like Windows Insider builds. These builds often include unfinished or unstable changes that could potentially affect third-party applications like Seelen UI. For the most stable experience, it is recommended to use stable versions of Windows.
✦ Does Seelen UI support debloated or heavily modified windows?
╰─ Seelen UI may still work depending on the modifications but any problems that arise from such situations will not recieve official support.
✦ Does Seelen UI require the full Edge Browser?
╰─ No, Seelen UI only requires the Edge Webview Runtime (This is a requirement! Seelen UI will not work without it).
- You can indiviually get this from here: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/Microsoft-edge/webview2
✦ Does Seelen UI support the native Virtual Desktops (~ Win + Tab)?
╰─ No, Seelen UI does not support native desktops. The Workspaces feature of seelen is the replacement. In the future, seelen will have a custom workspaces viewer to replace the default win+tab menu.
✦ Does Seelen UI require an internet connection to work?
╰─ No, Seelen UI does not require an internet connection to function. The app works perfectly fine offline once it is installed. However, you will need an internet connection to:
- Download new widgets, plugins, or themes from the official repository.
- Check for updates to the app or its components. Beyond these activities, Seelen UI operates independently without needing an internet connection.
✦ How do you update Seelen UI?
╰─ Microsoft Store Install:
- You just have to wait, it'll auto-update (or you can manually update from the store if available). However note that the Store release will always be a bit behind the exe release due to the approval process.
╰─ Exe Install:
- When there is an update, open Seelen Settings and look to the upper right. Next to the close and cancel buttons, you'll see a red dot. Clicking it will start the update process. Once clicked, just wait and respond as needed until it is complete.
✦ I have an issue with Seelen UI, what do I do?
- If you are on the Seelen UI Discord, ask for help in the #help channel. Please do not expect immediate responses, it depends on who is online and able to help on that day and at that time.
- If you are on the Seelen UI Reddit, create a question post. The same as the above, please do not expect immediate responses.
If the issue is a genuine bug, please create a bug report on either the GitHub page or on the #app-issues channel on the discord.
✦ Why is my Resource Usage HIGH?
╰─ As of 2.4.3, the base resource usage has been greatly reduced. If usage seems very high now:
-
First, note that the base overall usage is affected by what seelen features you have enabled. For example, if you enabled the Seelen Wallpaper Manager, it has it's own processes, so it's adding to the overall usage. So only enable what you want to use / if you enabled something but dont really use it, consider disabling it.
-
Second, the main contributor for high usage will most likely be the resource(s) you are using. Except a few, all resources on the site are User Created resources and as such they may not consider optimizations or the extent of there work just has a high impact (those that deal with animations add the most overhead). So check and consider if you want to use high usage resources.
-
If not the above, the issue could be related to a memory leak on long sessions (webview2 issue). Resolved by restarting Seelen UI. As of 2.4.6, a workaround has been implemented.
✦ How can I make a certain app not show up on the dock?
╰─ To start, open up seelen settings and go to the tab Settings by Application:
- Once there, click the New button on the top right. In menu, fill out the basic information of the desired app. Once done, scroll down if needed and select No Interactive and click create. Image!
- To get the identifier, open up taskmanager and right click the related process and select Properties.
✦ How do I restore the Seelen UI config to it's defaults?
- Close Seelen > Go to the App Data folder (the path is at the top of the page):
- Delete the settings.json file and launch back into seelen. It will re-create it.
